How to spend more time at your peak

by Sam Radford on August 24, 2009

Sometimes we can be ‘in the zone’. Everything just comes together the way we want it to. We feel passionate, we’re flowing in our strengths, and everything just feels, well, great. If only life was like this all the time!

Sadly, we often end up spending most of our life between these kinds of peaks. And this is to an extent pretty normal. But are there ways in which we can lessen the dip? Can we reduce the time spent between peaks? In essence, can we increase the amount of we spend operating in the realm of passion and strength?

I’m convinced the answer is yes. The key to this is self-awareness. It amazes me how many people I meet who still struggle to articulate what their strengths are. Sure, they can come up with some mumbo jumbo that they think they should say, but they are largely clueless as to what their true strengths really are. Not only that, they often even struggle to really know what they’re passionate about.

What’s the result of this? Hitting a peak of operating in areas of passion and strength are at best very occasional and, more typically, only accidental.

So, if you haven’t already, you really need to invest some time in discovering more about your strengths and passions.
