Good analysis Russ. It is important to discover what we can from the lives of people who have such a high impact in the world. Brokenness is often the foundation for great leadership but it can also lead to flawed character. Character development can be can be the result of experiencing brokenness. Dan Allender goes so far in his book Leading with a Limp (http://tinyurl.com/kry9hk) to suggest brokenness is a prerequisite for leadership. However, I think we need help for that to happen. Isolation and damaging people who won't be honest with a broken person can lead to that brokenness causing terminal damage. I think that Michael Jackson's wounds were aggravated beyond any help by the only people who could have helped him.

I always say that talent and strengths are character neutral. The orientation of our lives - our character - will shape whether we use them for 'good or evil'.

Awesome stuff.

It made me think about using strengths for good and not for evil. We can be equally successful focusing on our natural talents to manipulate, abuse and unethically get ahead in life.

Someone once told me that Martin Luther King and Adolf Hitler had the same MTBI and obviously similar talents but what makes the difference in character.
