Take some time to savour your life

by Sam Radford on June 1, 2009

I live in England. I love living in England. But, to be honest, I don’t always love the weather. We don’t get nearly as much as sun as I would like.

That said, this weekend just gone was wonderful. Clear blue skies, gorgeous sunshine. It was fabulous. I feel refreshed, invigorated, and alive.

I was sitting outside eating lunch yesterday in a quaint little town called Buxton. People were milling by. There was a nice cool breeze. And I was reflecting on a great weekend with some good friends of ours which we spent dreaming and planning about the future.

As I sat there I just thought to myself, I love my life. I love where I am at, I love what I get to do.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not content. I have a whole host of dreams that aren’t realised yet or even close to being realised. But I love where I am and where I’m headed.

Whilst I was thinking about this it was like I heard a little voice in my head saying, don’t forget to savour the moment whilst you head to the future.

I needed to hear this. I’m a futurist. I tend to live in the future. I’m always looking ahead. But I recognise that I need to enjoy and live in the moment too. I need to savour the life I have whilst heading towards the life I’m dreaming of. I need to be thankful for now and not just caught up in tomorrow.

Take some time today to savour where you are now.

Loved the few times I’ve been across the pond, Sam. Even though thousands of miles separate us, we’re in the same place of loving where we are and where we’re headed. But you’re right – Jesus said live right where you are. Enjoy the now in spite of dreams and destiny. Great reminder.

@Colleen | Glad it was a helpful prompt. I know it’s a prompt I regularly need!
