On a scale of one to ten (ten is high), how curious are you?
You don’t have to rank yourself on that scale, but the question about curiosity is an important one. If we are going to be people who fully develop and maximise our potential, it will be in large part because of our curiosity.
Have you ever thought about what causes babies to develop?
I have a three month old baby girl – our first – and it’s fascinating to watch her. She’s seeing everything for the first time. Everything is new and fascinating to her. And every time she sees or hears something it triggers her curiosity.
She is starting to develop head control because she wants to see things! She’s starting to grab things with her hands and develop coordination because she wants to touch and feel. She’s pulling things towards her mouth and discovering what things taste like. She’s hearing all kinds of different sounds, taking them all in, learning to listen.
She is constantly learning and endlessly developing. And this is all happening to a significant extent because of one simple ingredient: curiosity.
The moment we stop being curious is the moment we cease to develop. We stop becoming and, when this starts to happen, we slowly start to die.
Have we stopped being inquisitive? Are we still reading books to learn? Are we observing and learning from life or just letting it pass us by?
Is there a new skill we could master or a subject we could learn? Or maybe we simply need to go for a walk in the country again and live, feel, and soak it all in as if it was the first time?
Do something today to rekindle your curiosity.

hi sam, curiosity is what brought me to your site, with a little help from dana byers and God. my conscienous is already expanding. And like your baby(congradulations!) I feel new and like to put things in my mouth to see what they taste like.
@Scott | I wonder if marketing could really be summarised as ‘provoking curiosity’?! Glad you stumbled across this site though and good to hear you still have a child like curiosity!
To respond to my own questions, it’s probably fair to say I go through phases when it comes to curiosity. Right now, it’s pretty hot…though I am writing about it so that probably explains that!
I’d probably give myself a 7 out of 10 though. I know that I still don’t ask as many questions as I should.
This one is for you, for kindling my curiosity
